“What does LOVE look like?
It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.” -Saint Augustine

He is only one. One of many who live here in Puerto Lempira. They all need a hug, a smile, nourishment, love, and Jesus. There are only so many hours in the day... We do what we can. 10 minutes on the swing could mean the world to him.
On a walk to another home, this little guy was taking care of his younger brother. I have never seen desperation as deeply set in anyone's eyes. I paused, took a quick photo, and had to move on. If only I had a granola bar to hand him. I may never see him again. He IS why we do what we do...
We were handing out tickets for the feeding program to be held the next day. We came across this home. We heard a child and a dog inside, but no answer. Finally, she appears at the side window, and tells us that her parents must leave every day to work, and she is in charge of her younger brother. They chain the doors to keep her "safe" inside.
We found this woman, happily washing her clothes in the creek that runs near her home. After handing her a food ticket, she asked us to take her photo. She couldn't look happier and more content with her humble home. I could only hope for contentment like hers.
During our walk through the outside village, this small family was taking a "break" outside on their porch. Her little brother drank the rest of the water from the dirty bowl, and when she realized he did, she have him "the dirty look" and I knew that getting water wasn't an easy task. She then held her bowl and lowered her head. I couldn't help but pour her some fresh water from my bottle. She drank it immediately. thankful, I'm sure.
Sometimes, we have special attachments. Then those "attachments" don't want us to leave at the end of our trip. Nothing makes your heart happier than knowing how much you mean to someone.
Beautiful shot of the girls from the Alestero Family Orphanage. This captures the spirit of that home, and the hope that they have for their future. They are orphans no more!
Village kids are the sweetest! But sometimes, they don't have very many opportunities to smile.
She led us to her home. We sat on one of two beds in a 15X15' room. When I returned to the US, I realized her home was smaller than my two car garage. My vehicles had a better home than her. But she knew no difference. She blessed me more than we blessed her. I just know it.
Leading worship time at the local feeding program! What a beautiful sight!!
There is NO better feeling than being able to meet a child that you sponsor each month. Seeing the smile that you help put on their face. Being hugged more than you thought possible in one week by any single person. Changing a life. IT IS POSSIBLE. If you want more info on sponsoring a child, please contact us!! There's a child that needs to know you!
Simply an example photo of the life lived by the Miskito people. What a beautiful freedom!
She was brought in, 3 years old, 13 pounds. Never in my life have I seen something like this that WASN'T on television. This is the reality of so many Honduran children. But why? Let's do what we can to change this. (side note- Novelina is a happy, growing baby girl today!)
Walking through town, handing out supplies, a woman came and got our attention. She asked us to come inside to pray for her sick parents. It's a privilege to be available to serve people like these.
you just can't help it! You will easily make a friend or two here!
